The Repair Shop is decked with holly and the Christmas spirit is in the air, as the experts are busy repairing and rescuing beloved festive themed treasures.
Musical box restorer Stephen Kember brings back to life a Victorian version of a juke box called a polyphon, which had rusted into silence. Sisters Ann and Kathryn are moved to tears when they hear it play the family's favourite carol for the first time in decades. |
The teddy bear ladies Julie Tatchell and Amanda Middleditch work their magic on the only Christmas present received by World War II evacuee Patricia in 1939, Betty Doll, as she is lovingly brought back life.
It's all hands of deck for The Repair Shop team as they tackle a rustic Nordic sleigh, which is destined to be driven by Santa in Leigh on Sea for local fundraising. Wood expert Will Kirk and metal expert Dom Chinea join forces for the bulk of the work restoring the sleigh; while Julia and Amanda prepare a soft furry cover for the benches, and Steve Fletcher aided by Jay Blades make sleigh bells to complete the picture.
Kirsten Ramsey mends and restores a battered 100-year-old school Nativity figure set, in time for their school nativity.
Lucia Scalisi restores an unusual 18th-century Madonna and child painting, which suffered damage from boisterous child antics which resulted in a hole being made in it with a toy light saber! Lucia brings it back to it's true glory.
Celebrating the season of joy and giving, the team also all work on Secret Santa projects for each which they share around the restored nativity set. Will in particular gets a delightful surprise at the unexpected giver of his gift.
