Mike and Greg are currently the only father and son master wheelwrights in the world With over 80 years experience in the trade between them, working from their purpose built workshops they are well prepared to restore or make any kind of wooden wheel. They also have made or restored countless horse-drawn vehicles and can offer a complete restoration or repair service for any vehicle. They are specialist military wheel and cannon restorers and have restored many wooden gun carriages to their former glory. They produce on average 200 wheels per year. No project is too big or too small for them. Greg was awarded an MBE in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his services to Heritage crafts - in recognition of his unparalleled craftsmanship and tireless work in ensuring their skills are passed on to current and future generations. On Tuesday 14th March 2023, Greg went to Buckingham Palace and collected his MBE from HM King Charles III. On his social media for that day Greg said “Truly honoured .. to receive my MBE medal from the King at Buckingham Palace. I had my beautiful girls by my side and it was a fabulous day. Perhaps when the King opened with "We have met before.." made it a little bit more special! It represents years and generations of hard work and is as much for my father as myself. We have always strived to ensure the survival of the craft, be that through modern techniques or materials tightly entwined with traditional methods or running learning weekends or just sheer hard work and honesty. We have raised the profile of the craft to new levels and support the trade however we can. Huge thanks to @heritagecrafts for the nomination and the foresight to see that we are progressing a special trade and making it secure for the future, and also to everyone who works for and with us” Website: http://www.wheelwright.org.uk Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wheelwrighting Comments are closed.
